A non-profit based in the United Kingdom that’s dedicated to supporting independent documentary filmmakers. They are backed up Channel 4, the Bertha Foundation and Ford Foundation, who’s purpose is to share their knowledge about documentaries, help with funding, make new partnerships with other foundations. Since their creation in 2005 they have helped numerous documentary features. Providing development, production and outreach funding as well as editorial support.

The foundation gives the opportunity to apply for funding, with three funds available

Bertha BRITDOC Documentary Journalism Fund: An international film fund dedicated to supporting long form feature documentaries of a journalistic nature. For films that break the important stories of our time, expose injustice, bring attention to unreported issues and cameras into regions previously unseen.

The Bertha BRITDOC Connect Fund: Looking to support smart, strategic outreach campaigns for ambitious independent documentary films with a social issue at their core; films which have the ability to achieve real change on a local, regional or global level.

BRITDOC Circle: A brand new film fund to support the very best artistic and journalistic films. Complements existing international grant makers, state funds and broadcast partners for maximum effectiveness.

Britdoc have founded workshops and producer’s labs that adhere to their philosophy of working on films with a social purpose, that inspire people to engage and act.
